1.0 miles, 400’ elevation gain, 1:30 roundtrip time
My daughter Emily and I took the Gold Lake Road northeast of Ward a short distance and turned right onto FR 373.1 and followed it up the hill until we reached a suitable spot to park northeast of Burnt Mountain. The area appeared to be undergoing a logging or forest management project. We struck off to the southwest toward the summit, trying to pick the easiest line through abundant downed trees and logs.

In short order we bushwhacked to the summit, which afforded nice views in several directions.

A cool breeze provided a refreshing respite from the stifling heat affecting the low elevations down in the city, and we were reluctant to leave.
