CRESTED BUTTE FALL COLORS

September 29-October 1, 2025

By Tim Briese

Teresa and I headed to Crested Butte to see more of Colorado’s colorful fall grandeur. Crested Butte has become our go-to place for fall colors in recent years, and once again we were not disappointed. The first day we drove around on the roads that go north of town before heading to Kebler Pass and down the Ohio Pass road toward Gunnison.

The Ohio Pass road is one of the best kept secrets around for fall colors, in our opinion.

The next day we left Gunnison and drove back up the Ohio Pass road.

We went west on the Kebler Pass road to the scenic Horse Ranch Park area.

We did a nice hike up the Dark Canyon Trail, covering some 5.5 miles roundtrip with 900 feet of elevation gain.

After the hike we continued on the Kebler Pass road and drove on to McClure Pass and Marble before pulling in for the night in Carbondale. The next day we went to Aspen and walked some scenic trails in town along the Roaring Fork River.

Then we drove over Independence Pass on our way home.
